What is Thai Yoga Bodywork (TYB)?
- Thai Yoga Bodywork is an ancient healing art from Thailand that helps receivers release areas of tension & blockages in their body by stimulating the flow of healing energy in the body, mind and spirit. The practitioner incorporates a variety of techniques such as acupressure, stretching, massaging, compression and energy work during the one-on-one session. The practitioner may use their thumbs, palms, forearms, elbows, knees and feet to create a slow flowing “dance” around the recipient’s body. Thai Yoga Bodywork is also referred to as “Thai Massage” or “Lazy Man’s Yoga.” Weather you are an experienced yogi or haven’t ever done any yoga, Thai Yoga Bodywork will increase your flexibility. During a session you are in a relaxed, passive state which enables you to stretch significantly further than you would otherwise.
What does a TYB session entail?
- The client lies fully dressed on a thin futon mat which lies on the ground. During the massage no oils or lotions are used. A moment is taken before bodywork begins to focus on the breath, cultivate body awareness and set an intension for the session. The bodywork begins at the feet and moves up the body, ending with the head, neck and shoulders. The practitioner combines massaging, stretching & acupressure along energy lines in the body, while the client remains in a passive, relaxed state. While stretching the client the practitioner will move in and out of the postures 3-5 times further releasing muscle tension a little bit more each time. In addition, the practitioner will move up and down energy lines (i.e. acupressure points) several times. This repetitive motion provides the client with a soothing rhythmic sensation.

What is expected of one during a TYB session?
- Relax and breathe deeply – doing these two things will greatly enhance your experience. Wear loose, comfortable, easy-to-move in clothes. Once in a while during a session the participant may be asked to change positions or actively engage certain muscles.
